I spent the whole time I was reading the book just wanting to yell at the lead or warn her, not sure which I felt more.

I was a distracted reader this month and I think that influenced my reaction to this novel. I found the history of Korea interesting. I was also drawn in by how women were treated in this society in the 50's and 60's. I found the love story far less interesting. I did not find myself reaching for this book when I had time to read, but ultimately was interested enough to finish the novel. 2.5 🌟
Ah-mazing.
Heart wrenching, beautiful story. Hits you right in the feels. So, so very good!
I am in a historical fiction mood. Third one started today.
RIP, Korean-American novelist Samuel Park. Alexander Chee has just reported his passing on Twitter.

This was a heart wrenching epic love story. It left me weeping. So many complex themes about duty to family, marriage & happiness run through this story. Tissues necessary.
