Famous Five: Five On A Hike Together | Enid Blyton
5 posts | 12 read
Meet Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timothy. Together they are THE FAMOUS FIVE - Enid Blyton's most popular adventure series. All 21 titles also available as audiobooks! In book ten, Dick is woken by a light flashing through his window. Is someone trying to send him a coded message? When the Famous Five hear of an escaped convict in the area, they are on red alert. The police won't help, so the Five have no choice - yet again, they'll be solving this mystery by themselves... Fantastic new cover art by Laura Ellen Anderson will draw young readers into this accessible timeless classic.

Does anyone have one of these little book-keeper-opener tools? If not, I‘d highly recommend it, as they‘re great for reading one-handed/hands free.

In other news, I‘m absolutely drained after this week. I‘m so glad that it‘s Friday...I don‘t think I‘d have lasted another day at work!

Johanna414 Oh, this would be great to read while I crochet!

Bookwormjillk That would be great for keeping my journal open at work 5y
ljuliel That‘d be great on the treadmill. Do you have a link on where to purchase them ? 5y

Famous Five observations - part 3:
7. Everyone carries a torch all of the time.
8. All villains come quietly when caught by the police.
9. Uncle Quentin is a proper prick.
10. No one minds having four random children and their dog over to tea.
11. Julian has almost Godlike power over the rest of the gang. He is only one year older, but this gives him the wisdom of the Dalia Lama and the authority of the Pope...well, he seems to think so...

Famous Five observations ct‘d:
4. Heather makes a pleasing bed.
5. Plums are exciting.
5. Girls must do ‘girl things‘ and cannot do ‘boy things‘. It‘s the highest compliment for a girl to be mistaken for a boy or a girl to be ‘a good little housewife‘.
6. Sandwiches send the Five into raptures.
7. Julian is a stuck-up, pompous, sexist prig.
8. Common people smell, speak unintelligibly and are generally stupid.
9. Anne is always scared.

I‘m on book 10 of the Famous Five. Observations so far:
1. Every adventure must have one of the following: caves, treasure, an attempt on Timmy‘s life, messing about on/near water, travellers, old ladies (usually farmers‘ wives with rosy cheeks) who provide too much food for too little pay or a girl who wants to be a boy who George hates.
2. Place names must be spooky/ominous.
3. Timmy can fight off any number of assailants (unless drugged)

charl08 I had these editions as a kid. Was disappointed that "now" meant had been on TV years before. 5y
Connster @charl08 They‘re on YouTube! 😁 5y
charl08 Aw, if only I had a time machine! 5y
Connster @charl08 Haha! It‘s weird watching them in today‘s world. They‘re so dated, but still great! Uncle Quentin is a lot nicer in the shows than he is in the books though! 5y

The Famous Five series were a staple of my childhood, among other Enid Blyton's. Siblings Julian, Dick and Anne, and cousin Georgina, together with Timmy the dog, had endless fun and adventures during the summer vacations. Not to mention the numerous picnics with cold ham, bacon and eggs and copious amount of ginger beers! 😋
