As a seamstress in the Big House, Clara dreams of a reunion with her Momma, who lives on another plantation--and even of running away to freedom. Then she overhears two slaves talking about the Underground Railroad. Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt is an HF story that would be great for a RA. The book shares how Clara, a slave and seamstress, sews a quilt that secretly shares the route of the Underground Railroad. cassandram This sources shares a lesson on how to incorporate it for these purposes. For UDL I would use 3.1 by supplying background knowledge of the Underground Railroad. Then for ESOL strategy I would use 6 to monitor their comprehension. Overall really loved this book!! #ucflae3414f19 5y
DrSpalding This is the kind of book that can support social studies units! Learning about Harriet Tubman through a picture book lays the foundation of knowledge for the students. Excellent choice. 5y
