Measurements of Decay
Measurements of Decay | K K Edin
5 posts | 3 read | 10 to read
In the far future, Earth's nearby star systems have been colonized. Outfitted with a device that allows them to escape into hallucinations at will, people spend most of their time withdrawn into their own minds. Tikan Solstafir, a renegade who refuses the illusory life enjoyed by others, lives in self-imposed exile on a starship. When a mysterious enemy attacks the ship, Tikan embarks on a mission to destroy the galactic tyranny and liberate humanity from its own dreams.Meanwhile, in the 21st Century, a disillusioned philosopher believes that humanity's collective misery originates in people's failure to communicate with others and make sense of the world. Growing increasingly misanthropic and monomaniacal, he proceeds on a hermetic quest to save humanity from itself, while also succumbing to his own moral decline. As these stories intertwine, a young girl reappears through various epochs, fleeting through Ancient Greece, Medieval Norway, Bolshevik Russia, among others. Unbound by time, Sielle has formed few attachments. Eventually thrust into Tikan's world, she becomes unwillingly entangled in a political scheme spanning centuries. An engrossing and multi-layered science fiction epic, The Measurements of Decay is K. K. Edin's stunning debut. At once a tortured love letter to philosophy and a space opera spanning centuries, it is a novel of ideas wrapped in a cautionary tale.

These were my favorite reads of 2018. Each of them changed me in some noticeable way, and I‘m so grateful that these books “found” me. Here‘s to another year of great reading Littens!

Holy wow! I am SHOOK! This book is incredible, and I‘ve never read anything else quite like it. The book tangles with big ideas - language, duty, freedom, love - all within the framework of SF (though there is a large portion that takes place in our modern age). The prose is dense, the ideas complex, and...I loved it! Certainly not for everyone‘s tastes, but if this sounds like something you‘d enjoy, I can‘t recommend it enough!

2BR02B Sounds terrific. Stacked! 6y

All-in-all this was an intriguing read. Definitely a good Sci-fi novel. I would certainly recommend this book to those who enjoy science fiction and dystopian genres.

Started my first book from #NetGalley. As if I didn‘t have enough to read. The books I own, Overdrive, NetGalley - I have more books than I can read in what remains of my short existence. I don‘t remember who here first told me about the site, but #LitsyMadeMeDoIt. Oh, and I forgot. I have Prime Reading AND I just signed up for a Kindle Unlimited deal for $1.99/3 mo. And I‘m still waiting to win a giveaway from Litsy. I think I have a problem.

WorldsOkayestStepMom I just started using OverDrive because of litsy. 7y
PurpleyPumpkin I recently signed up on NetGalley too. Not enough time in the world to read everything I want to read!📚 7y

Ingerella Sounds familiar! My addiction to Kindle Daily Deals is pretty severe. Can't stop buying them! I also have Overdrive and Hoopla. There's no way I can read everything on my Kindle and tablet right now! 7y
Alfoster We need a support group but I can‘t come up with an acronym: something like Litsy Addicts Who Won‘t Give Up Reading. My brain is full. Weigh in!😍 7y
azulaco This sounds like my life! On the positive side, I did the Kindle Unlimited trial and I‘m finding that I don‘t like their offerings. So that will be eliminated from my banquet of book choices, at least. I still have Scribd, Overdrive, Hoopla, Serial, Prime Reading, and so many unread books that I have banned myself from NetGalley! 7y
