pickHistorical fiction about the American south. A house and family have no money post wwi and a daughter marries to save the family. This book follows her stories.
pickA sad yet lovely story of the dying age of the richness and luxury pre WW1. Antithesis of #thegreatgatsy , it encapsulates that era, focussing more disinctly on the decay, decadence and debauchery. Great depiction of the architecture, the fashion and the opnion of others driving people and their #choices. The breakdown of a #relationship of a mother and son who end up in #love with the same man is an incredibly well told tale.

Mr. Goolrick can always tell a great story with beautiful words.

panThis is the first book I have read by Robert Goodrich. I did not care for this one. The writing wars not very good. There wasn‘t that much of a cohesive story to it.

The cover is stunning, and as you continue reading, you will understand the meaning of the title.

1. This was a mushroom growing on the stump of a tree in my back yard. It was that huge too.
2. My current read is engrossing and is another good read by Robert Goolrick. THE DYING OF THE LIGHT. Book is tagged. Gorgeous cover.
3. My favorite genre is historical fiction, but I also enjoy women‘s fiction and mystery.
4. Weather is overcast, and we are expecting rain.
5. No weekend plans.

1. I enjoyed Robert Goolrick‘s books The Reliable Wife and Heading Out to Wonderful so I wanted to give his new one a try.
2. Mom always took us to the library to get Nancy Drew books.
3. I like to read in the afternoon outside if it is nice, but I usually read in the night.
4. Characters from Shadow of the Wind, The Lost for Words Bookshop, and Beach House Reunion.
