Postcards: True Stories That Never Happened | Jason Rodriguez
7 posts | 1 to read
The inventive writers and illustrators who crafted these transporting stories just may convince you to trash your BlackBerry and buy some stamps. Frank Warren, author of PostSecret Youve seen them at flea markets and in antique shops and used-book stores across the country: Vintage postcards inscribed with handwritten notes, evocative messages that capture a thought, an expression, a concern, a snapshot of someones life once upon a time. Jason Rodriguez, acclaimed editor of Elks Run, collected a remarkable array of these correspondences, dispersed them among thirty-three of comics greatest creators, and asked each to craft a story about the person who sent it. The result is a vividly imagined, gorgeously rendered graphic anthology illustrating tales of romance, adventure, hardship, and mystery. In Postcards, these gifted artists share some of the richest and most inventive work of their careers. From the Hardcover edition.

When you can't buy what you want, you make them!

Raise your hand if you're a #LitsyLove member who has never been to NJ! I'm happy to send out a card with a few fun facts. (Raise your hand if you just like fun facts or NJ, too!)

Bookwormjillk I have spent many hours on the turnpike! But I also loved hiking near the NJ highpoint and the Delaware Water Gap so I know that is not all you have to offer! 4y
JackOBotts Proud Middlesex County, NJ resident over here! 👋🏼💜 4y
BookwormAHN 🖐🏻 I've never been! 4y

MemoirsForMe 🙋🏻‍♀️ Born and raised in NJ and proud of it! @JackOBotts I used to live off exit 9 of the Turnpike in Middlesex County. 🙌🏻 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @JackOBotts @UwannaPublishme I was born & raised in Middlesex County - exit 12 - but about seven years ago I moved to Union. I am close to Route 22 and all its conveniences which is a step up from tiny Carteret. 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @AmyG Yes you are, my dear! 😁 I didn't think ahead enough to troll through old issues of WeirdNJ for really weird facts. Maybe next year. 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Tattooedteacher I pass through P-burg on my way to visit family in Easton sometimes. It looks nice. I partied there once. Does Hank-fest mean anything to you? 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Bookwormjillk YES!! It's funny you mention that because earlier that morning I took the Turnpike to work instead of the Parkway and had the thought to mention that one should not judge us by what they see traveling the NJTP. 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @BookwormAHN @BayouGirl85 @Ash.on.the.line @Pageturner1 I'll get your cards in the mail on Monday! Bonus fun fact: If you read above, you'll see we identify where we live with "exits" more than cities. Former New Jersey Turnpike exit 12, now Garden State Parkway 140. Why? Maybe because some towns are super close together so you feel like you live in an area and not so much in one small space. ??‍♀️ 4y
Pageturner1 thanks a bunch😁 4y
MemoirsForMe I remember having a t-shirt that said: Yes I‘m from NJ! What exit are you? 😂 4y

Postcard of Michigan for Woodland Elementary School!

Three facts:

1. Michigan is made up of two peninsulas; called the Upper (UP) and Lower (LP) Peninsula.

2. Michigan‘s nickname is the Wolverine State, but this animal is no longer and inhabitant.

3. Detroit, a major city, is noted for being the car capital, including the first paved road; nickname the Motor City.
