Pickpick

This story has some elements of fantasy, but it's more about a drifting family of mother and daughter a la Gilmore Girls. Early on it's clear that the dynamic will be flipped but that's not what makes this interesting. Instead it's the different layers that the author builds in the story, and how Zeeta as a protagonist handles them. I particularly appreciated how she builds community, along with getting a taste of Ecuador that was familiar.

My current read takes place in Ecuador, and while it's in a completely different part than where I lived, it's bringing back all sorts of memories. I miss my family there too! Reading takes you places. 🇪🇨
