so-so🎧📖 This had potential. Well, then what annoyed me?
1 - GF 30 years younger? Ew. 🙄
2 - Stilted language.
3 - Predictable.
What did I like?
1 - It was only $1.99
2 - Not a huge investment of time.
3 - I liked the basic premise. Backwoods drug runners hire older x-boxer/enforcer to solve their sister‘s disappearance.
4 - Shelby seems to care about his daughter.
I might try book 2, I was hoping for more.

so-soI could pan this. It‘s so predictable and formulaic it would be easy to pan it. And fun. Let‘s be positive though. It‘s short. It‘s an inoffensive and brief tale of an ageing ex-boxer into whose life bad things come. It‘s the first of a series but I can predict with some confidence that the subsequent books and I will never meet.
If I‘d noticed the audiobook only lasts 4 hours I wouldn‘t have thought this good value. As is happens, I would have missed out on some very acceptable fictional cliches. Shelby Alexander, our hero, is an ex-boxer of a certain age. Over 60 damn it. The author takes repeated pains to convince us this grizzled worldly-wise figure is irresistible to a sexually voracious and gloriously nubile waitress half his age. I so want to believe this.
