Armistice
Armistice: Book 2 in the Amberlough Dossier | Lara Elena Donnelly
15 posts | 9 read | 1 reading | 10 to read
Armistice returns to Donnellys ravishing 1930s Art Deco-tinged fantasy world of Amberlough with a decadent, tumultuous mixture of sex, politics, and spies A hefty novel full of fascinating characters exploring oversized topics such as sexuality, music, culture, fascism, nationalism, class wars, revolution and love. Shelf Awareness In a tropical country where shadowy political affairs lurk behind the scenes of its glamorous film industry, three people maneuver inside a high stakes game of statecraft and espionage: Lillian, a reluctant diplomat serving a fascist nation, Aristide, an expatriate film director running from lost love and a criminal past, and Cordelia, a former cabaret stripper turned legendary revolutionary. Each one harbors dangerous knowledge that can upturn a nation. When their fates collide, machinations are put into play, unexpected alliances are built, and long-held secrets are exposed. Everything is barreling towards an international revolt...and only the wiliest ones will be prepared for what comes next. For Amberlough: James Bond by way of Oscar Wilde.Holly Black Astonishing! World Fantasy Award-winning author Ellen Kushner Beautiful, all too real, and full of pain. Read it. It will change you. Hugo Award-winning author Mary Robinette Kowal At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Thanks for my #SummerSantaGoesPostal box @Lidia - it‘s perfect! The books are amazing (I‘ve been meaning to read the tagged book for like a year 😂), and the bookmarks are beautiful.

Lidia I‘m so glad you liked it! 😄 5y

Not as sharp or bitter as the first book, and missing the flair of its setting, however it still tells an achingly painful story while throwing enough new twists to the story to keep me racing to the end.

I'm not crying you're crying. My only regret is that the next book hasn't been written yet.

My currently reading/ to read in the coming weeks pile. Earlier in the year, I made the resolution that I wouldn't read any more novels by straight white dudes this year. (Comic books get a pass, but I'm definitely also trying to read more diversely there as well). As you can see, it's coming along well! (Also, Armistice continues to wound my heart every couple of pages)

Okay so I'm now about 100 pages in, and basically every conversation anyone has makes my heart ache. The subterfuge is great too, but man this book /hurts/.

Aaaaaaa I'm so ridiculously excited to start reading this. The first one is one of the best books I've read all year, so I can't wait to get stuck in.

Wandering around Amazon books

Mitch Interesting......what‘s it like? 6y
RealLifeReading Quite a nice children‘s books area. A decent area of books, and all with their covers facing out. Also they display a lot of their devices like echo and the kindles @mitch (edited) 6y

Newly acquired and I can‘t wait to read it. I LOVED the first book, Amberlough.

kgriffith I‘m pretty sure you told me to read 6y
ablachly @kgriffith I did. It‘s fantasy with gay spies and cabaret clubs in a fascist state. Do you need more of a pitch? 6y
InBooksILive That cover is beautiful! 😍 6y
kgriffith @ablachly Nope, just more hours in the day! 🤓 (and to figure out if I‘ve already acquired it somewhere. If only there was a way to keep track...) 6y

Well, this ripped my beating heart right out of my chest.

If Amberlough was about losing the fight, then Armistice is about the ache of an aftermath. It's where the country you've lost and the love you've lost overlap, and everyone is trying to put the pieces of their life in some kind of order when all of the sacrifices they've made have been rendered pointless. It's every bit as good as Amberlough, but very different.

I treated myself to this on Tuesday, the date came out, because I had a dentist appointment and I knew it wasn't going to be pleasant. As it happened I got sick the night before and couldn't go. I note that the first book in the series, Amberlough, is a Nebula finalist.
