A universal, deeply moving exploration of grief and empathy With its spare, poignant text and irresistibly sweet illustrations, The Rabbit Listened is a tender meditation on loss. When something terrible happens, Taylor doesn't know where to turn. All the animals are sure they have the answer. The chicken wants to talk it out, but Taylor doesn't feel like chatting. The bear thinks Taylor should get angry, but that's not quite right either. One by one, the animals try to tell Taylor how to process this loss, and one by one they fail. Then the rabbit arrives. All the rabbit does is listen, which is just what Taylor needs. Whether read in the wake of tragedy or as a primer for comforting others, this is a deeply moving and unforgettable story sure to soothe heartache of all sizes.

Sometimes hugs say more than words… “The Rabbit Listened” by Cori Doerrfeld is such a great MF book that teaches students about empathy in a moving story. I used this NY Times Best Seller for my S and I‘m excited to use it in my future classroom! It‘s about a boy named Taylor who doesn‘t know who to turn to when something terrible happens. However, someone appears, and it‘s all that Taylor needs… can you guess who it might be? #ucflae3414su20

CameoD Vivianne, the way you used storytelling to share this book was amazing! I had never heard of this book before, but it will definitely be on the bookshelf in my future classroom :) your pacing and tone of voice was perfect for this book 4y
JoslynB I loved hearing you present this book during class. It was a lovely book that teaches valuable lessons to children of how we feel and handle our own emotions. Sometimes it is best to listen to what someone has to say rather than tell them what they should do to feel better. I plan to purchase this book for my future classroom. 4y
DrSpalding Your peers loved your storytelling! And I enjoy your image showing your sweet stick puppets. Please do use this in internship and your future classroom. 4y

This books used onomatopoeia regarding animals and characterized them very well. This is a sweet story of a child who can seem to get along with any animals except a nice little rabbit. The way the text was placed on the pages with images added to the book in my opinion.

Poetry. I would definitely use this in a classroom. It shows that sometimes you don‘t need or want someone to suggest ways to make it better, you just want someone to listen while you work it out. It‘s an important lesson for others who want to help and for those who need someone to hear them. It‘s cute and fun and relatable and perfect for children.

The rabbit listened, by Cori Doerrfeld, was published in 2018. This poem is about a little child named Taylor that had created an amazing structure out of blocks and it fell down. Once the structure fell Taylor wanted to be alone but many different animals came to try and cheer him up. He didn‘t want to forget about it and do something else. A rabbit came along and listened to him rant. There is repetition in this poem and little rhyme.

The illustrations were also repetitive but different because each time it was a new animal.

The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld, 2018. This is a cute poem about how sometimes you just need someone to listen. The use of repetition, onomatopoeia, and imagination make the story a sweet and fun read. It‘s a free form poem so it has no rhyme scheme, but despite that it flows beautifully.

Published in 2018, this poetry book uses the element of repetition and focuses on imagination in a sense of Taylor creating a block structure from his own creativity. It is a relatable story for young children because many children know what‘s its like to create something and have it be knocked down and so this sheds light on perseverance and trying again!

The Rabbit Listened is a poetry story written by Cori Doerrfeld in 2018. This form of poetry used a lot of repetition. The story used a lot of imagination that could help the child see things in a new way through animals. I found this book to be very cute and relatable to children.

"The Rabbit Listened" by Cori Doerfeld is a sweet, simple, fictional (F) story that has won the Charlotte Huck Award. "The Rabbit Listened" is a great applicant for shared reading (SR) because of its intriguing plot that keeps readers interested.
When something bad happens to Taylor, he is unsure of what he should do! Suddenly, all of the animals begin to pry into Taylor's business, but he does not want to open up and share his feelings.

caldwellalex95 Throughout the story, Taylor experiences a plethora of emotions. Finally, a rabbit approaches Taylor with the kindest attitude. Taylor emotionally opens up to the rabbit and appreciates how the rabbit listens to his thoughts and feelings. Ultimately, the rabbit's calming nature made Taylor feel so much better. Susan Hill, a children's author, shared on her personal website how a lesson about feelings and emotions can benefit students and relate 6y
caldwellalex95 them to the theme of this story, which is empathy. Once the teacher is finished reading "The Rabbit Listened", students can initiate a THINK PAIR SHARE activity and discuss with a peer how they might help someone who was angry, sad, or scared. What does happiness look like to you? Anger? Surprise? ESOL strategy #10 and UDL's guideline self-regulation (9.3) and communication (5.3) are applicable for this book. 6y
caldwellalex95 Overall, "The Rabbit Listened" is a story everybody should read, because it reminds all of us how to respect and treat others during a difficult time. www.susannahill.com/2018/03/02/perfect-picture-book-friday-the-rabbit-listened/ #LAE3414SP19 6y

Can we talk about how much I love this book? Taylor (who is never gendered) builds a fantastic block structure, which gets knocked down. Animals offer solutions and ways to react, but it turns out what Taylor needs is someone to listen and give them space to process. A quiet book that still has enough plot for a good read aloud to a group. #storytime #emotions #kidlit #raisingreaders

Taylor builds something great but after it's destroyed the animals try to help make Taylor feel better by offering to yell or laugh together, but Taylor doesn‘t want to do any of those things. No one makes Taylor feel better until the rabbit comes along. This is a cute story for any student going through something and also helps other us learn that sometimes the best thing to do to make someone feel better is to just be there for them. #UCFLAE3414

sboynt This would be a great book to present as a PR. Along with the possibility as a SR, RA, GR, or IR. Because this book is so new, there aren‘t many online resources for lesson plans yet but I found a link for more information about the book and how to purchase it. https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/552119/the-rabbit-listened-by-cori-doer... 7y
