Giving a father's insight into life with his daughter Maria, aged 12, who has autism, this comic tells the story of their week holiday in the Canary Islands, Spain. Delightful illustrations and dialogue between father and daughter show the day-to-day challenges that people with autism and their carers face, and how Miguel and Maria overcome them. Funny and endearing, this comic helps to show how Maria sees and experiences the world in her own way and that she's unique, just like everyone else.

María is 12. She has an infectious laugh and she has autism. Using illustrations and simple text, her father recounts a holiday they took together, travelling from their home in Barcelona to the Canary Islands. I like the way the message that each individual is unique comes through strongly, and isn‘t overshadowed by the general information about #autism which is also included. Delightful #nonfiction for all ages. #translation

Chrissyreadit @Lindy would you recommend it for a 12 year old with autism? She is a voracious reader. I would like to find her books that have a positive story around having autism. 7y

These are the faces that people make when, for example, María makes a scene in a restaurant because she‘s nervous or because I tell her not to eat so fast. These faces make me sad and sometimes annoy me.
