This was my #HeadCasting when I read Nightside:

Patera Silk - young Michael Caine

Auk - Common

Blood (the crime lord, duh) - Vincent D‘Onofrio

Also Maytera Marble - Michelle Yeoh, Maytera Mint - Andie MacDowell, Maytera Rose - Helen Mirren, and Hyacinth - Rocketeer-era Jennifer Connelly

saresmoore Vincent D‘Onofrio! Even when he‘s not playing a bad guy, he‘s totally a bad guy. 7y
DrexEdit @saresmoore agreed! I'd watch anything he's in! 😊 7y
TK421 Vincent D'Onofrio was perfect as Kingpin in the Daredevil series. I picture him as any bald, imposing crime lord when I'm reading now.😃 7y
ApoptyGina69 My heart skipped when I saw Vincent‘s head! Then I read the context. Anyway, hell yes! 😍 7y

Pickpick

When the church and school that serve a poor neighborhood are purchased by a ruthless crime lord, a clever yet naive priest decides he will do anything to save it, even if that means sinking into the criminal Nightside he knew nothing about.

Oh yeah, and all of this takes place inside a generational starship that has left a dying Urth.

And maybe there are vampires?

1st book of 4 but also the 7th book of 12 depending on how you count.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk I‘ve read 9 other Gene Wolfe books and they have all been meditative, dream-like, and labyrinthine. This bordered on farcical and even at times, dare I say it, a little wacky. 7y
readinginthedark Interesting! 7y
DrexEdit Gene Wolfe is an author I hope to get to one day. 7y

Welp, I got about 30 pages before I consulted Wikipedia. When reading a Gene Wolfe book this is normal and perfectly acceptable.

I have also looked up the word “cenoby” which is a religious community. #CurrentRead

Jabberwocky Okay so I‘m intrigued. What‘s the first book in this series? 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk A big question! Nightside is the 1st book of 4, but it‘s technically also the 6th book in a massive 12-book story cycle. Gonna tag you in some other posts that will cause this to make more sense! @Jaberwocky 7y

Life necessitates that most of my reading takes place in tiny increments stolen throughout the day. While I‘m content with my lot it is not the ideal way to read Gene Wolfe, whom I love, so I‘m carefully carving out some time this week to read this in a few large chunks.

2018 is the year I read the 4 volume Book of the Long Sun and it all starts right here. #currentread

TobeyTheScavengerMonk It freaks me out that there is no “of” in the title of this book. I‘ve had a copy of it since college and I just realized this today. 7y
AlaMich It is kind of a weird title. It seems like maybe it should be Nightside: The Long Sun or something. 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @AlaMich Plus the preceding 5 books in the series and the next 2 are all something “of the” something. 7y
AlaMich @TobeyTheScavengerMonk That kind of inconsistency irks me. 😠 7y
