pick4⭐️ This is the true story of Muddy Waters, Blues Legend. He was a boy who could never do what he was told. But that lead to some amazing music. This story is very well done. It creates a merger between picture book and biography that is seamless and interesting.
The illustrator, Evan Turk, has been an absolute doll signing posters and the book for me.
Bought a couple more books at the Ezra Jack Keats reception tonight. And, yes, the books and poster are signed. 😁

Evan Turk‘s gorgeous and energetic collage artwork incorporates bits of newspaper stories of the time, like the Chicago Defender shown in this image.
“Last I checked, you can‘t eat the blues for breakfast,” said Grandma Della. “No child of mine is gonna waste his time with music.”
But Muddy was never good at doing what he was told.
Everything about this #picturebook biography is wonderful, including the design choice of rich brown endpapers.
