Panpan

Turns out that 3.36 average rating on Goodreads is generous. This was a mixed up, superficial mess. Random tangents w/no bearing on the plot, & other bits that deserved to be fleshed out yet were just stuck in & ignored. Jacqueline doesn‘t even go to Haiti—supposedly the center of the plot—until halfway thru, & the book is barely over 200 pages! So much went unexplained & unexamined, & we get a death that felt wholly gratuitous. Bleh. 1/5 ⭐️

Oh, a fun little interlude about a dude‘s whiny desire for a little marital rape. I‘m sure some might balk at that term, but saying that “Sundays belonged to Kevin. He could do anything he wanted—that was the agreement. He could have whatever he wanted, including her body,” and then having him keep grabbing her and she has to say no like 5 times and then he‘s all pissed off......fuck that. There is no permanent pre-consent. Go jack off and STFU 😡

I have no recollection of where I heard about this book, and it only has a 3.36 average rating on Goodreads, but I‘m still interested and plus, it‘s really short 😬 #nowreading

Was at the library yesterday and picked this book up-timely in that today is the 8th anniversary of the earthquake that devastated Haiti —not to mention the other reason that Haiti is on the minds of many today. Described as a story about love, loss, immigration & PTSD, it details the aftermath of that terrible event on a Haitian-American family. Hope to get to it over the long weekend. 🇭🇹💜💜

Tamra 👍🏾 Heartache over the callousness displayed. My kids are proud of their African heritage and I intend to keep it that way. 7y
Suet624 I wish we could make him stop. 7y
Buddys_Momma @Tamra @Suet624 My heart is seriously aching over all of this mess ☹️ Just when you think it can‘t get any worse! 7y
