pickTwo weeks ago yesterday, I was in this place, seeing the after effects of such a fateful day in US history. Just three days ago was the 76th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. I didn‘t quite finish this book in time to see the sites, but finishing it up afterward gave me some insight into the space I was reading about. A powerful book about a powerful piece of history.
Made it halfway through this book on our flight to Hawaii. Giving myself a deadline of tomorrow, since we will be visiting Pearl Harbor all day! So ready to see this piece of history.
pickMy husband and I had the privilege of visiting Pearl Harbor in June. My father served in the army during WWII, and was part of the occupation forces in Tokyo. My dad passed away a number of years ago, so visiting Pearl Harbor was very emotional. The museums and memorials are humbling and inspiring. Walter Lord's account of the attack is not comprehensive, but it relates the experiences of the people involved with respect and compassion.
A very appropriate choice for the "set on an island" theme, considering today marks the 75th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
