A Double Death on the Black Isle
A Double Death on the Black Isle: A Novel | A. D. Scott
5 posts | 2 read
Two Women, Two Murders . . . A stunning and suspenseful story of families, betrayal, and a community divided. Nothing is ever quite at peace on Scotlands Black Islethe Traveling people are forever at odds with the locals, the fishermen have nothing in common with the farmers, and the villages have no connection with the town. But when two deaths occur on the same day, involving the same families from the same estatethe Black Isle seems as forbidding as its name. Joanne Ross, typist at the Highland Gazette, is torn whether to take on the plum task of reporting on these murdersafter all, the woman at the center of both crimes is one of her closest friends. Joanne knows the story could be her big break, and for a woman in the mid-1950sa single mother, no lessgood work is hard to come by. But the investigation by the staff on the Gazette reveals secrets that will forever change this quiet, remote part of the Highlands. The ancient feudal order is crumbling, loyalties are tested, friendships torn apart, and the sublime beauty of the landscape will never seem peaceful again.

I finished the tagged book last night. Today I‘m the victim in a puppy-and-baby pileup. For the last 24 hours, these two haven‘t been able to separate from each other. #dogsoflitsy

A Double Death on the Black Isle and Les Mis

A cappuccino with a splash of amaretto in, or a flavored latte from Starbucks

Redbush tea with dinner, before that a cup of coffee with sugar and oat milk on the way to a 5 year old‘s birthday party at a mall arcade (save me)

#weekendreads

rachelsbrittain Les Mis 😍 Thanks for joining in ☕😊 6y
mrsmarch @rachelsbrittain I‘m reading it in bites via SerialReader, and just got to Jean‘s theft of the silver. Still early days yet. Glad I‘m sticking with it so far. 6y
rachelsbrittain I love serial reader! I'm working my way through 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea at the moment 6y

My local library has the right idea!! #litsyloveslibraries

CocoReads They‘re a little off on the northern Indiana/SW Michigan total: we‘ve got Lake Effect coming behind the main storm. Heck, I‘m even taking a book to work on Sunday, although the odds of sitting down long enough to read it are slim to none. 🤣🤣 6y
mrsmarch @CocoReads Also, how is upstate NY only in 5-6/7 books? Isn‘t lake effect a thing there too? Luckily I have way more than the recommend number of books just sitting around the house. But two kids and probably no chance whatsoever to sit and read them. 😭 6y
CocoReads @mrsmarch exactly! But I do like the idea. 6y
Bookish_AF Upstate NYer here! (Syracuse). Lake effect is very much a thing!! And I do think we are getting some after the main storm also. I‘m a little north of Syracuse and I think our currently projection is maybe only 15 inches (and wind chills of -40!?! What!?). I am ready to hunker down and READ!!! 6y
mrsmarch @whippoorwill815 Keep your windchill! It was 40 here just outside Boston today. 6y

#humpdaypost

My toddler eating chicken nuggets with mustard sauce.
I haven‘t bought a book for myself yet this year. Tagging current read! #readyourgenes
I think I recently counted and I‘ve visited 40 states.
I‘m trying to curate a home library of women authors and diverse fiction to inspire my daughters as they grow up.
No intl travel this year! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇮🇸 and 🇫🇷 last year killed our travel budget.
