Stunning in detail and scope - especially the illustrations. Text isn't less stunning or detailed, it's just a different style - poetic maybe? Read aloud, it's matter-of-fact but not dry. To quote the front flap, "Simply told, grandly shown..." Has the most informative endsheets I've every laid eyes on. Super cool book about the flight of Apollo 11. Great illustrations and a wonderful use of facts to interest the children. Also some awesome graphics of a spaceship in the front of the book!

This non fiction book all about space and the moon was super fun to read! It tells a story of Neil Armstrong landing on the moon! The illustrations in this book are beautiful. There is a lot of use of the color black throughout the book. It is interesting and in the back has a more detailed explanation for those who want to know more.

Nonfiction. This is a great nonfiction book. It made even me, someone who has no interest in going to space, want to know what it‘s like to go to the moon. It‘s engaging and informational and perfect for a classroom.

Moonshot by Brian Floca, 2009. This book combines the features of a traditional nonfiction book with those of a children‘s book. It‘s full of information and diagrams like that in a nonfiction book but it‘s told in the style of a children‘s book with bright and engaging illustrations that are also like a children‘s book. It‘s beautifully done and very engaging.

My favorite thing about this book is definitely the illustrations and page set ups. Everything is so different and I think kids would be infatuated.

This book is set up super cool! Some of the pages are set up like a comic book and the illustrations are very bright and detailed. This is a good way to introduce kids to the history of spaceships without using confusing terminology or images.

I thought that this NF picture was such a great book to have in a classroom library! Not only are the illustrations extremely inviting, the book itself has great information about Apollo 11. I thought this book could spark a great dramatic reading from students as they reenact the first moon landing, the rovers on mars and the moon, etc. Getting children interested in reading through space exploration might even be MORE fun for the teacher.

Moonshot: The Flight of the Apollo by Brian Floca (NF) would be a great book to do a Partner Reading (PR)with. Moonshot talks about everything that goes into shooting a rocket into space and what astronauts do in space. This book can be read during a Science unit about space or a History unit that is talking about the moon landing. After this book is read, a video of a rocket launch can be shown to the students to further show what happens.
