I really enjoyed this biography of Stefan Zweig, one of my favourite authors. Well-written and researched, Zweig is portrayed as an intellect & a sensitive, compassionate man but not without flaws. He avoided family responsibilities, instead focusing on work. Knowing how it ends creates tension, & the book helps make sense of it. The world wars as backdrop puts things into perspective, & by contrast some contemporary novels feel less urgent.
