The Lost Prayers of Ricky Graves
The Lost Prayers of Ricky Graves | James Han Mattson
4 posts | 3 read | 1 reading | 6 to read
In raw, poignant alternating first-person narratives, interspersed with e-mails, gay chat-room exchanges, and other fragments of a youth laid bare in the age of social media, The Lost Prayers of Ricky Graves unravels the mystery of a life in all its glory: despair and regret, humor and wonder, courage and connection. A heartbroken and humiliated Ricky Graves took the life of a classmate and himself. Five months later, the sleepy community is still in shock and mourning. Rickys sister, Alyssa, returns to confront her shattered, withdrawn mother and her guilt over the brother she left adrift. Mark McVitry, the lone survivor of the deadly outburst sparked by his own cruelty, is tormented by visions of Rickys vengeful spirit. Rickys surrogate older brother, Corky Meeks, grapples with doubts about the fragile boy he tried to protect but may have doomed instead. And Jeremy Little, who inadvertently became Rickys long-distance Internet crush despite never having met, seeks to atone for failing to hear his friends cries for help. For those closest to the tormented killer, shock and grief have given way to soul searching, as theyre forced to confront their broken dreams, buried desires, and missed opportunities. And in their shared search for meaning and redemption, Rickys loved ones find a common purpose: learning to trust their feelings, fighting for real intimacy in a world grown selfish and insincere, and fearlessly embracing all that matters mostbefore its gone from their lives.

3.5⭐️ story 5⭐️performance This is one of those books where you MUST go audio. The multiple narrators really work, and the passion of the performances really turned an okay story to an amazing one.

The book follows people that are varying degrees close to a gay teen who shot a bully and then commits suicide. There‘s also a lot of commentary about social media.

Trusting you again #Audible editors! I usually don‘t like multiple narrators...but we‘ll give it a shot. #audiobook

ptkpepe98 I'm reading this one. It's kept my interest. I would imagine the audio version, if done well, could be entertaining.😀 7y

Mehso-so

Stunningly mediocre. This had potential, but the characters were two dimensional and the writing flat.

This month‘s kindle first pick. I couldn‘t decide if I wanted to read it or save it for later, but we spent all day packing and I want to read something that will definitely take my mind off our 990 sq ft house being a maze of boxes in various stages of packing.
