This book was completely ridiculous and a fun read between some more serious ones. The characters are an eclectic group that all work for a tabloid magazine company and share story ideas constantly. I‘m not sure why it‘s on the #1001books list, but I enjoyed it as very different from many of the books I‘ve read.

BookwormM Glad you enjoyed was beginning to think I was alone 5y
Daisey @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I saw you stacked this one. If you don‘t already have it easily available, I would be happy to pass this copy along. 5y
Liz_M @BookwormM you are not alone. I loved it when I read it last year! 5y
Daisey @BookwormM @Liz_M I don‘t know that this will be a book I remember well, but the humor and ridiculousness of the whole thing was a perfect change of pace for the time I read it. 5y

I‘m taking a break between some school work and some garden work to start this book in the hammock. Based on the reviews I‘ve seen, this sounds like it might be a lighter read and a good change of pace right now.

BookwormM I found it funny but I am British 🤣🤣 5y
Daisey @BookwormM I tend to enjoy British humor and I laughed several times in the first couple chapters. I‘m thinking that‘s a good sign. 😂 5y

Set in NYC's tabloid industry, it starts slow with the eccentric employees of a disreputable paper. But then a caper-plot creeps in--a model needs saving from a mob boss. Which leads to a battle between gangsters and newspaper staff, a voodoo priestess, crazy cab rides, kidnapping, and an assault on a gated mansion. I loved the way the characters framed events with potential tabloid headlines. It may not be great literature, but it was great fun.
