A cat who thinks hes a duck? He must be Quackers!! This quirky funny book is about standing out, fitting in, and building a life with room for all. Quackers is a duck. Sure, he may have paws and whiskers. And his quacks might sound more like...well, meows, but he lives among ducks, everyone he knows is a duck, and he's happy. Then Quackers meets another duck who looks like him (& talks like him, too!)but he calls himself a cat. So silly! Quackers loves being among his new friends the cats, but he also misses his duck friends, and so he finds a way to combine the best of both worlds. Part cat, part duck, all Quackers!

I am not a big fan of any book pushing identity. So for me I didn't get much from this book.

Quackers is a TL book written by Liz Wong. This book is about a cat who thinks it‘s a duck because of its surroundings. Quackers meets a cat, who looks just like him, but meows and calls himself a cat. He then discovers that he actually is not a duck, instead he is really a duck. He goes on to live with animals just like him, but he misses his duck friends. #UCFLAE3414SP28

JessicaC This website provides multiple activities for preschool students in regards to all subjects. https://growingbookbybook.com/quackers-activities/. UDL for this would be 1.1 offering ways to customizing the display of information. ESOL is 3,4, 16, 32. 7y
DrSpalding Check your genre JESSICA. When you read the summary, and use your FlipBook as a guide, I think you will come up with another one. 7y

#UCFLae3414F17 Quackers is a F text written by Liz Wong. The story is about a cat named Quackers, who hilariously thinks he‘s a duck. He thinks he‘s a duck because he lives at the pond, and everyone else is a duck. He feels like he doesn‘t belong and tells how he hates duckweed and getting wet. Quackers meets a “strange duck” named Mittens, who helps him realize who he really is… a cat. Later, he begins to miss the pond and realizes that he can

JordanHull whoever he wants to be. This adorable story would make a great brain breakfast RA.

The site above lists numerous activities that teachers can do to enhance the story with their children. I had the pleasure of seeing some student center activities first hand at read for the record 2017. I would

JordanHull encourage think, pair, and share method for student discussion, utilizing ESOL 10. The story has a beautiful meaning, but has to be discovered and allowing the students to figure it out together will make the message more meaningful. By facilitating discussion and allowing discovery with student center activity you will also accomplish UDL 8.3. 7y

Quackers the cat describes what it‘s like to be a duck. One day he comes across a fellow cat and realizes that he‘s a cat not a duck. He gets a chance to enjoy what a cat usually does and he realizes he misses being duck. This lucky cat continues his days in both worlds surrounded with the things he like best.

lizzie0922 @BLYTHE44 I absolutely love this book! It is so adorable and I love how the cat believes he is a duck too and fits in. It shows how sometimes you can be a little different but we‘re all still the same and fit right in together. #UCFWaltersLit 7y

I read aloud Quackes by Liz Wong at the Read for the Record even and the kids LOVED the story. Quackers is a duck, well at least he thinks he is. When Quackers meets a strange looking duck he discovers he might not actually be a duck. Quackers realizes it does not matter if he is a duck or not, having his friends is what is important. This would be a great book to teach children about acceptance. #ucflae3414f17

Teresaj Such an adorable book! Another book that is similar to this one is Not Quite Narwal by Jessie Sima! 7y
JordanHull I love that the book comes in Spanish too. It has such a great message that should reach all students. Read for the Record was a great experience! The activities and your resources would be so beneficial to all students. Great post 👍🏻 7y
DrSpalding You did an amazing job with the students. Great idea to utilize the jumpstart website. EL/UDL are nicely aligned. 7y

Quackers by Liz Wong tells the story of a cat named Quackers who thinks he‘s a duck. Quackers walks us through the day to day life of being a duck, from what they eat to what they do for fun. One day Quackers meets another “duck” like him. The “duck” is really another cat and thinks Quackers is silly for thinking he is a duck. The cat shows Quackers how the other cats live.

ChelseaPerez Quackers has lots of fun on the farm with the other cats, but he starts to miss home. He decides that whether he is a cat or a duck is not important. He is just himself, Quackers, and that is all that matters. This book could be used as a Read Aloud or with Storytelling!

Quakers which is written and illustrated by Liz long is a sweet RF book that teaches children about acceptance. It would be a wonderful book to read to students who are feeling out of place.
On this website I found cut outs that can be used in the classroom for RT https://www.jstart.org/read-for-the-record-2/activities-resources-toolkit/

DrSpalding This was an excellent "fantasy" choice for our event this year. Your EL and UDL strategies align perfectly. 7y
AndreaC I think this book sends a great message for students. Because you mentioned it is good for acceptance this might be a nice choice for students starting at a new school 7y
MakenzieT I realize now that this book is fantasy because the cats talk in the book. 7y
mayahearn I LOVE this book! I love the message about inclusion and accepting people for who they are, no matter the differences. 7y

Quackers written by Liz Wong is a fiction picture book that tells the story of Quackers, a cat, who lives with the ducks and thinks he‘s a duck. Until one day he meets another cat! This story would be great to be used as a S or RT in a 1st or 2nd grade classroom.
