NYT notable book. A beautiful story about a boy in France who becomes a man during WWII. Brave characters from a chef dedicated to preserving France through cuisine and a madame who masquerades as nobility and is part of the Resistance. Like the quote for some reason.

This is wonderful. An epic serious comedy of French WWII, first published in 1980, now translated. I read it immediately after Elena Ferrante's My Brilliant Friend and it wasn't a comedown.
