Genre: RF. Notable Children‘s Trade Book in the Field of Social Studies Award. Teaching Strategy: LC. This book is an “ecological mystery” about a missing gator in the Florida Everglades. It‘s great to teach social studies and environmental problems happening right here where we live in Florida. Activity: http://templatelab.com/book-report-templates/?wpdmdl=6981 #UCFSU19 UDL: 3.1 EL: Focus on thinking skills; sequence, summarize, report, etc.

CWalters This is one on need on audio tape as well!! 5y

As an adult, I absolutely loved this book! I finished reading it in one days time. Although it is fiction, the scientific information within the Eco mystery is accurate. I plan to read My side of the Mountain after being introduced to this title. #UCFWaltersLit

marissa.s @MissMorganSlavik I loved this book too! I was honestly so skeptical to read it in SCE but I'm glad we did. I actually found another book by the same author and it was just as good. I always disliked science as a student but this author has me hooked on her books! #UCFWalterslit 7y

I liked that this RF book had a mystery component. The book includes important scientific info., but at times I felt like skipping some parts to get to knowing where the gator was. It includes topics like homelessness, family, and conservation. This link shows a preview of some grammar and literary activities. #UCFWaltersLit

The Missing Gator of Gumbo Limbo is a realistic fiction of a girl name Liza who is homeless and living in an unspoiled forest in southern florida. The story continues with Lisa trying to search for a missing gator who is destined for extermination. This would be a great book for students in grades 5th through 8th. #UCFWaltersLit

lburgos9 @lizzie0922 Thank you for posting this book! I like the link you also attached. The vocabulary words can be very helpful for kids who run into the words in the book and don‘t know what they mean. 7y

This RF book transported me to the place I was raised until I was 10 yrs old. I lived in amazing tropical forest which I miss dearly...Chapter 2 (The Woods People) has the description of the Niche and I left like I was part of the story....This book really help student identify the science content they are been taught which for my future lesson I would use it when teaching how algae are created...

CWalters Thanks for sharing your text to self connection with this book. I'm SO glad Dr. V includes it in her course! #UCFWalterslit 7y
TanishaRosa I agree, this book is certainly rich on science content. The character's stories were also very interesting, and the mystery of Dajun's whereabouts as well. #UCFWalterslit 7y
