Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight | Michael Morpurgo
4 posts | 6 read | 2 to read
A witty Arthurian tale receives a wondrous translation by England's Children's Laureate and an award-winning artist. Think yourself back in years, my friends. . . . It's New Year's Eve in Camelot, where King Arthur, Queen Guinevere, and all their good Knights wait breathlessly for an extravagant feast to begin. Suddenly, a strange and frightening Knight bursts into the hall a giant of a man, green from head to toe, who mockingly challenges the Court to a shocking game. Only the chivalrous Sir Gawain dares to take on the hideous Green Knight. But over the unexpected course of his test, will Gawain prove as brave and honest as he'd like to believe? Welcome to a medieval world full of sword fights and shape-shifting, monsters and magic, and timeless characters both gallant and wonderfully human. Written anonymously in the fourteenth century, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is retold in its entirety by Michael Morpurgo in a lively and accessible narration that captures all the tale's drama and humor. Vivid illustrations by the celebrated Michael Foreman infuse this classic tale with the sights and colors of dragons, swords, and medieval pageantry."

Had never heard about this King Arthur story but it is an interesting one which centers around Gawain.
FYI - The cover is misleading. 😅😅 I expected there to be more dragon based on it.
Also my #doublespin for June.

I've never read this before & didn't know much about this legend; it only sprang to life for me when I saw the trailer for The Green Knight. This retelling by Morpurgo for children is beautifully-written & illustrated (art by Michael Foreman). I read a bit each night before bed & it created a suitably magical dreamscape as I drifted off. What I didn't expect was that it's a bit racy for the kids! Lol 👵🏽#ChildrensClassicRead2021 @TheBookHippie

Cathythoughts ‘ Magical dreamscape‘ sounds wonderful 💫 We did it in college ( but I think I might have missed some of those lectures 🙊.. I‘d like to go now though 3y
Lindy I like Morpugo‘s simple, elegant style, although I don‘t think I have read this one. Your post reminds me of another retelling of Gawain that I liked: 3y
batsy @Cathythoughts Yes, I want to read a proper adult version and have the Armitage translation 😁 Really want to watch the movie because it looks gorgeous. 3y

So many versions of this tale. One of my favourite off all time. I have like more than 5 versions of this. Here are two I bought for the cover. Both are so lovely. #coverlovers #awesomeautumnboks
