A few years ago, journalist McKay Jenkins had a tumour removed from his abdomen. At the hospital, he was asked a lot of odd questions by two researchers: How much exposure had he had to toxic chemicals and other contaminants? Asbestos dust? Vinyl chlorine? Pesticides?
