Had a blast listening to the first instalment in the Penric & Desdemona series - it‘s a fairly gentle, low stakes fantasy (accidental castle burning aside).

Started my Spring Break by reading Penric‘s Demon. The first novella in this compilation. I have listened to Penric‘s Fox a while back so it was nice to get the beginning of the story. Love Bujold‘s worlds as usual.
New novella release!

I loved this novella! When Pen stops to help an old lady on the road, she ends up bequeathing him her demon. Desdemona, the name Pen gives the demonic collective, has to help protect Pen from those out to get him. 1/15 for #Jumpstart2020.
I‘m setting my goal at a total of 15 books.
I want to check 1-2 off my #Booked2020 list.
I want to check 1-2 off my #Nonfiction2020 list.
I‘d also like to log at least 2 hours of audiowalking.
I‘m starting with the tagged audiobook. Let‘s #Jumpstart2020!
I know we have a lovely assortment of novellas in this series, but I greedily long for a novel.
Loose-leaf Links is a feature where I gather together the interesting bits and pieces on sci-fi, fantasy and romance I've come across and share them with you over tea.
In today's news, the New York Times cops flack over their romance round-up. Angry Robot Books will soon open to unagented manuscripts. And Lois McMaster Bujold announces a new Penric and Desdemona novella.

Penric's Demon by Lois McMaster Bujold has been nominated for a Hugo Award and I can see why. This lovely fantasy novella makes an excellent introduction to Bujold's work and the World of Five Gods. I liked Penric. He's reasonably intelligent but naïve. However, while I love a character with a sense of wonder, it was Penric's kindness that really endeared him to me. Well worth reading.
