Never fails me

I found this very informative, the author blends the talent of storytelling with historical information really well.

Faith is a choice; anyone who says otherwise is trying to convert you.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Reza Aslan blew me away when I read Zealot a few years ago, so I had high expectations for this quick read. He takes a scholarly look at why religion exists by taking us through a brief history of humanity, posing questions, theories, and thoughtful observations. As a non religious person myself, I find different faiths, beliefs, and gods fascinating. Humans are interesting creatures. Very thought-provoking read!

I like it a lot! I wish it was longer. Almost half the page count is footnotes and appendices. But ignoring that, it‘s a pretty tight little tour through humans‘ interpretation of the divine and feels pretty personal for Aslan. He‘s probably not for everyone but if you‘ve read his other books (I‘ve only read Zealot besides this and enjoyed it) then you‘ll probably like this too!

This is exactly how I felt playing Harvest Moon 64.

Started this one this morning and so far, it‘s fascinating. As much as we have invented and adapted, we‘re not so different from our primordial ancestors.

Really fascinating read with great scholarly groundwork, but the ending was a bit of a letdown because it doesn‘t have the same kind of depth as everything else. Still a great read though!

You know your nonfiction read is pretty solid when practically half the book is dedicated to the bibliography and index. Didn‘t expect any less of Reza Aslan :).

I haven‘t been warm in DAYS and I am enjoying this book.

#TBRtemptation post 1! I've read another of his books and it was thought-provoking, so I think I'll give this one a try too. Just released. This is an account of humanity's continuous struggle to come to terms with the divine, and how the idea of God/gods has evolved from prehistory through today, with differences in a plethora of realized faiths. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

One thing that needs to be stated clearly: this is not a religious novel. This is a book that takes a look at God through the context of history.

I enjoyed how Aslan related history, society, and cultural to the context of god(s). It creates an informative, well-rounded, and at times fascinating read.

An excellent and well research history of gods through the years from cave drawings to Allah. While this is not the first such history, Aslan's name will bring attention to the book. I am sure it will set some off as it is a hands off historical look at god rather than a religious one. I thought it was excellent. Warning though, only half the book is writing and the rest is notes.
