I'm Armenian. 🇦🇲 Much of my culture is unknown to me. My ancestors scattered, refugees from genocide on the early 1900s. So much of our culture is also scattered. Little is translated to English. Littler still is remembered beyond stories of the genocide. This book not only collects tales nearly lost, but it does so specifically from the Armenian community in the Detroit area, where I'm from. I've never felt so deeply connected to a book.

mrsthilkey Wow, looks like an interesting book. I read a great historical fiction debut last year called Orhan's Inheritance, taking place during the Armenian genocide. It's a difficult read, but very good. Most of us Americans don't learn anything about it. ☹ 7y
beccaeve @mrsthilkey My aunt recently recommended Orhan's Inheritance. I need to check it out. It really is sad that it's not in most history books. Throughout school, I actually taught most of my history teachers about the Armenian Genocide. 7y
BarbaraBB That is sad indeed, to have to teach your teachers. I learned about it in school, but then again I live in Europe, so Armenia is much closer. Another book about Armenia I could recommend (although about the genocide as well) is (edited) 7y
