I read this book to help a group of my RSP kiddos with their literary essay. This is the third book from the Magic Tree House series that I've read. It was a quick read that was full of facts about Venice in Italy. It's a good fantasy book for kids. 3.5 ⭐️

I would use this book in my classroom because students love the idea of adventure and this book does just that.

Mehso-so

This book, in my opinion, was not my favorite but I still think it would keep kids engaged. The use of time travel as a modern fantasy element will help keep the students engaged, but by using real places it adds a touch of reality. It also holds careful attention to detail of setting throughout the book.

Carnival at Candlelight, one of the many books in the Magic Tree House series written by Mary Pope Osborne, tells the story about siblings Jack and Annie who are on a mission to save all of Venice from a flood. The brother and sister duo encounter several obstacles on their quest, however, with the help of a little magic, they become heroes on this great adventure. LC is one teaching strategy that could be used with this text. #ucflae3414su19

MeganKlein Teachers can meet with small groups to discuss a chapter or two at a time. UDL strategy 8.3 (foster collaboration and community) needs to be prioritized in LCs. Students will feel more inclined to participate and discuss their thoughts about the book when there is a strong sense of classroom community. EL strategy 2 (promote cooperation in small groups) also aligns with the UDL and teaching strategies. 5y
MeganKlein In LCs, teachers can assess student comprehension through a variety of ways, and students also learn new ideas from their peers‘ perspectives. www.mthclassroomadventures.org/application/files/9514/8604/9878/MTH33-Whole-Class-Reading-Carnival-at-Candlelight.pdf This resource provides teachers with various lesson plans and activities that align with the book. MeganKlein One creative writing activity that I absolutely love requires students to imagine as if they were in Venice as it starts to flood. Students are instructed to write a letter about their sights and feelings, as well as what they would do to stay safe. 5y
MeganKlein Totally forgot to mention this in my post, but this book falls into the genre of MF. 5y
