The Copenhagen Connection
The Copenhagen Connection | Elizabeth Peters
7 posts | 8 read | 1 to read
A strange twist of fate brings Elizabeth Jones face to face with her idol, the brilliant, eccentric historian Margaret Rosenberg, at the Copenhagen Airport. An even stranger accident makes Elizabeth the esteemed scholar's new private assistant. But luck can go from good to bad in an instant -- and less than twenty-four hours later, the great lady is kidnapped by persons unknown. Suddenly desperate in a foreign land, Elizabeth must cast her lot with Rosenberg's handsome, insufferable son Christian in hopes of finding her vanished benefactor. On a trail that leads from modern wonders to ancient mystery, a determined young woman and an arrogant "prince" must uncover shocking secrets carefully guarded in the beautiful Danish city. And they must survive a mysterious affair that is turning darker and deadlier by the hour.

If you're looking for a book to take seriously, give this one a miss. But if you're just looking for a fun, slightly ridiculous romp around Copenhagen with plenty of tongue-in-cheek tropes, this may be the book for you. I've been slowly working my way through Peters's backlog and while this wasn't a new instant favorite, it was a genuinely fun time.

CarolynM While I agree it‘s not her best, I reread it on a flight to Copenhagen a few years ago, then had fun relating things back to the book (like Queen Margrethe‘s tomb (supposedly😆) and the carousel in the Tivoli Gardens) Have you got to my favourite standalone yet - that‘s great fun for comparing with the real world 2y
TheAromaofBooks Not yet, but it is on the list!! I fell in love with her writing via Amelia Peabody. So far I've enjoyed her writing under this name more so than the novels she wrote under the name of Barbara Michaels - those seem to be a lot more melodramatic 😂 2y

#BookReport - Solid reading week, as I also finished several of my chapter-a-day reads this week as well!! It's been good to get some things checked off the list, although I'm behind on my reviews as usual. Really enjoyed the tagged book yesterday - silly but fun. Lies was a solid thriller that kept me glued to the pages. The next Percy Jackson was great fun. The Sweet Life was more novel-y than romance-y which I wasn't exactly expecting but it ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) was still quite enjoyable. Just started (finally) the next installment of the Leephorn & Chee series!! However, it's almost time to start thinking about what books are getting added to this windowsill for July! 😂

Cathythoughts So excited for you. I will have to ask you all the good places to go .... enjoy ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 6y
CarolynM @Cathythoughts I'd definitely recommend the harbour and canal boat tour (lasts about an hour) we did that yesterday and it was lovely. Also the Tivoli Gardens - we went this evening about an hour before sunset, so walked all around seeing it in daylight, then did it all again with the lights on. So pretty! 6y
MrsMalaprop @CarolynM How fabulous! Enjoy 😊. 6y
Jeg I‘m very envious. Sounds like you are getting good weather. 6y
