Cristo si è fermato a Eboli
Cristo si è fermato a Eboli | Carlo Levi
The Italian-Jewish writer, journalist, artist and doctor Carlo Levi was born in Turin in 1902. In 1935 he was exiled to the province of Lucania (now Basilicata) in Southern Italy because of his anti-fascist activities. "Cristo si è fermato a Eboli" (Christ stopped at Eboli) is an autobiographical novel chronicling his detention and house arrest in Lucania.

inlovewithmyshelf @Ruthiella Yes, we went to Dubai and then on to Sri Lanka in September 2017. Two utterly incredible places but I wouldn‘t want to live there! 🥵 3y

Rather bleak: but hardly surprising given the context. Author was exiled (within Italy) by Mussolini to beyond poor rural village.
