Lilly Kaiser had come to terms with her solitary, uncomplicated life after becoming a young widow. So when a stranger delivers an old violin to her Berlin antiques shop and tells Lilly it belongs to her, she s completely bewildered. Why should she be the one to inherit such an exquisite instrument?Together with her best friend, Ellen, and handsome musicologist Gabriel Thornton, Lilly sets out to explore the violin s legacy. From England to Italy to Indonesia, she follows its winding trail. Along the way, she learns of Rose Gallway, a beautiful woman of English and Sumatran descent who lived among Sumatra s lush gardens more than a hundred years earlier. A celebrated and sought-after musician, Rose once owned Lilly s violin and regularly played concerts for Sumatra s colonial elite until, one day, she simply disappeared. As Lilly unravels the mystery behind Rose s story and uncovers other unexpected secrets she ll come to see her own life in an entirely new light. And as each shared discovery brings her closer to Gabriel, her heart might finally break its long-held silence."

I‘ve been trying to read books that I‘ve had on my Kindle forever as I am a sucker for a Kindle deal and I don‘t remember downloading this one. I was pleasantly surprised to find it to be an enjoyable read. An antique shop owner, Lilly is given a beautiful violin by a mysterious stranger. Throughout the course of the book Lilly tries to find her connection to the violin by traveling to London, Italy and Sumatra.

Amazing! Even though some encounters seemed a bit farfetched, this is a truly beautiful story of family, history, mysteries and secrets, and exotic lands. I highly recommend it!

Sarah83 Jeder braucht sowas mal zwischendurch 😉 8y

While I wouldn't add this to any kind of "must read" list, this is still a pick for me. Its for those times when life gets us down a little too much and we want to revel in a world where love comes easy, our endeavors conveniently brought to fruition, and even the sorrows of the past seem like they were orchestrated to bring you a magnificent present. It helps the writing was beautiful and the narrator great with many accents. www.wp.me/p6D5Ti-3QU

Just finish this one on the drive to see family. I'll post the review after the holiday but I'm excited that I finished my backlog of Kindle First book and only have December's left to read. Pretty sure I won't finish it before the end of the month, though.
Okay, I probably won't get to start it on account of finally getting a hold from the librarym but its the veey next one....

So many shipwrecks! So many! Shipwrecks cannot be the answer to every plot twist!!!!

Kathrin @kedupre I couldn't agree more... Too many convenient coincidences, I was about to bail on this one several times! 8y
