so-soThis YA novel written in verse tells the story of Melinda, a teen who has run away from an abusive home and fallen in with charismatic Henry and his “family.” Loosely based on Charles Manson and the Helter Skelter killings, I found this book repetitive and disjointed.
If you are an Instagram user and are looking for a late summer challenge, perhaps this is it.
A nice reunion with my daughter after six months. We visited LaHave, Mahone Bay, Bridgewater (where I purchased the purse on the right as I seem to now be enamoured with vintage straw bags like the one on the left, which my daughter gave me for Christmas.) Although I swore I would not be buying any books….yeah, that didn‘t go so well. The pictured bookstore is in LeHave.
panSomehow--SOMEHOW--I actually read the whole thing. It's god-awful. It's supposed to be loosely based on the Mason family -- exciting, right? Wrong. It was boring. Words and phrases were repeated over and over and OVER as if the author didn't know what else to write. Every word was lowercase except Henry and His/Him when referring to Henry. Awful punctuation. To make it worse, it's written in bad verse.
