Neanderthal Marries Human: A Smarter Romance
Neanderthal Marries Human: A Smarter Romance | Penny Reid
18 posts | 39 read | 2 reading | 5 to read
This book is not a standalone. It is the sequel to 'Neanderthal Seeks Human, ' it is book #1.5 in the 'Knitting in the City' series, and it is a full length, 105k word novel. There are three things you should know about Quinn Sullivan: 1) He is madly in love with Janie Morris, 2) He's not above playing dirty to get what (or who) he wants, and 3) He doesn't know how to knit. After just five months of dating Janie, Quinn-former Wendell and unapologetic autocrat-is ready to propose marriage. In fact, he's more than ready. If it were up to Quinn, he would efficiently propose, marry, and beget Janie with child all in the same day-thereby avoiding the drama and angst that accompanies the four stages of pre-matrimony: engagement, meeting the parents, bachelor/bachelorette party, and overblown, superfluous wedding day traditions. But Janie, much to Quinn's dismay, tosses a wrench in his efficacious endeavors and challenges him to prove his devotion by going through the matrimonial motions, no matter how minute and mundane. Will Quinn last until the wedding day? Or will he yield to his tyrant impulses? Regardless, one thing is for certain, Quinn Sullivan will have to learn to expect the Spanish Inquisition (i.e. the unexpected) if he plans to have and keep Janie Morris as his wife. Again, you must read 'Neanderthal Seeks Human' first before reading this book. This book is written in first person, alternating POV (Janie Morris AND Quinn Sullivan; but more Janie than Quinn)

I, of course, jumped ahead to book 2 (previously reviewed) when there was a 1.5, completing Janie and Quinn‘s story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ as always for Reid. It‘s cute, it‘s funny and it has snort out loud moments. This one does start right from book 1 and completes their story but it also overlaps book 2 (Elizabeth and Nico). Reid is becoming a fave author. I‘ll sign up for any of her books.

This is sexism and toxic feminism all wrapped up in one. If a woman is doting on a man he's not considered weak, but if a man is doting on a woman, she is? Why? And so he's holding coats and doors for her, so what? He loves her and trying to show her affection in those little gestures. If her feminism is taking a hit she can reciprocate. In a healthy relationship there's no weaker and stronger, there's give and take.

Trashcanman What do you do with all the books you read? 5y
TheAromaofBooks I had trouble getting into the Penny Reid books. The MC in the first book annoyed me so much that I never read the next one haha 5y

This was a cute continuation of Janie and Quinn‘s story but it didn‘t hold my attention. I guess I felt like it was longer than it needed to be. I will say the Vegas scene was one of my favorite parts in the book. 🌟🌟🌟

It was the continuation of the 1st story. It was alright, but I feel like it wasn't necessary for the series

Penny Reid never disappoints. I have to say I liked Neanderthal Seeks Human more but I still really enjoyed this one. If you haven‘t read this series yet, I highly recommend it. #bookbonanza19 #romantsy #romance

Book 2 of Janie & Quinn‘s madcap epic love story finds our heroine strapping herself to a rack in the Tower of London, at which point Q jumps at the chance to propose marriage & negotiate terms.En route to the elaborate wedding—designed to put their new relationship thru a stress test—there are bachelorette parties, hashish,a mostly naked Vegas Elvis, dress fittings, family reconciliations, helpful exes, & loyal friends. #goodbookhangover #romantsy

I didn't love this as much as the first book, but it was still super fun! I'll probably buy the next book on my next payday.

I found this sequel even better than the first novel. It was filled with wonderfully weird dialogues, funny moments, lovely friendship scenes and made me snort with laughter as well as cry.

The short story, pictured above, was part of the Penny Reid Newsletter.

Wanted to finish knitting this hat. Then picked up my book to accompany a cup of tea, just for a few minutes. An hour later, several snorts of laughter later (let's be honest), and I don't want to go back to my knitting.
Oh well, I have enough hats, I don't need to finish this one desperately. ;)

I absolutely love when the sequel to a novel is not only just as good but even better, and this book falls right into that column. I loved reading more about Janie & Quinn & their relationship & the beauty & love in it! LOVED IT!!!
