A heartbreaking, full-color graphic novel of the refugee drama In the French port town of Calais, the historic home of the lace industry, a city within a city has arisen. This new town, known as the Jungle, is the home of thousands of refugees, mainly from the Middle East and Africa, all hoping, somehow, to get to the UK. Into this squalid shantytown of shipping containers and tents, full of rats and trash and devoid of toilets and safety, the artist Kate Evans brought a sketchbook and an open mind. Combining the techniques of eyewitness reportage with the medium of comic-book storytelling, Evans has produced this unforgettable book, filled with poignant images by turns shocking, angering, wry, and heartbreaking. Weaving into the story hostile comments about the migrants from nativist politicians and Internet trolls, Threads addresses one of the most pressing issues of modern times making a compelling case, through intimate evidence, for compassionate treatment of refugees and the free movement of peoples. Evans s creativity and passion as an artist, activist, and mother shine through."

Threads is a moving, heartbreaking, informative graphic memoir first published in 2017. In it, artist and author Kate Evans shares about her experiences volunteering in the Calais Jungle and Dunkirk refugee camps and gives the reader glimpses into the lives and ongoing trauma of the many people who sought shelter there. She makes an impassioned cry for the humane, compassionate, and respectful treatment of refugees. Heartbreaking and infuriating.

Bookwomble I thought this book was great, too. Her graphic bio of Rosa Luxemburg is fantastic. 1y

Published in 2017, this piece of graphic-journalism by cartoonist Kate Evans of her experiences as a volunteer at the Calais Jungle refugee camp is hugely informative and humane. Sadly, the more difficulties the governments of Britain and France have gotten into since this was written, the harsher their anti-migrant rhetoric has become.

Stories like this make me so horrendously furious. Please stop pretending that we in the West are the good guys in this situation because we have proved that we aren't. We're just the ones born geographically lucky. It's heartbreaking.

This isn't a book to be judged but one that everyone who has the ability to vote should be forced to read and analyze the images.

My dog had to keep comforting me because he sensed my anger and frustration.

Yeah I'm like SUPERRRRRRR over humans. We can be removed.
