The Undertaker's Daughter
The Undertaker's Daughter | Sara Blaedel
10 posts | 15 read | 25 to read
A new thrilling suspense novel from #1 international bestselling author Sara Blaedel, author of THE FORGOTTEN GIRLS "One of the best I've come across." -Michael Connelly "Sara Blaedel is a force to be reckoned with. She's a remarkable crime writer who time and again delivers a solid, engaging story that any reader in the world can enjoy." -Karin Slaughter "One can count on emotional engagement, spine-tingling suspense, and taut storytelling from Sara Blaedel."-Sandra Brown Already widowed by the age of forty, Ilka Nichols Jensen, a school portrait photographer, leads a modest, regimented, and uneventful life in Copenhagen. Until unexpected news rocks her quiet existence: Her father--who walked out suddenly and inexplicably on the family more than three decades ago--has died. And he's left her something in his will: his funeral home. In Racine, Wisconsin. Clinging to this last shred of communication from the father she hasn't heard from since childhood, Ilka makes an uncharacteristically rash decision and jumps on a plane to Wisconsin. Desperate for a connection to the parent she never really knew, she plans to visit the funeral home and go through her father's things--hoping for some insight into his new life in America--before preparing the business for a quick sale. But when she stumbles on an unsolved murder, and a killer who seems to still be very much alive, the undertaker's daughter realizes she might be in over her head . . .

A woman travels from Copenhagen to Racine, Wisconsin, after learning that her estranged father has died and left her a funeral home to manage. But things aren‘t exactly what they seem! This isn‘t quite a page turner, but it‘s interesting and gives me another book for #50states of mystery. Since it ends on a cliff hanger, I guess I‘ll read the next one.

I‘ve read several of Blaedel‘s Louise Rick series and really enjoyed them, so I was bummed to discover this one, the beginning of a new series, is a complete misfire. Ilka travels from Denmark to Wisconsin to determine what to do with her late estranged father‘s funeral home. There is little plot or character development. I definitely won‘t read this series.

Pickpick

I have to say that I am now a big fan of Sara Blaedel. I have heard many good things about her novels, so when I found out my library had this novel, I decided to give it a shot. I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed the novel. I quickly fell in love with the characters, and am ready for the second in the series! I will certainly be reading her other novels.

Just got out of the Women Writing Crime discussion with Sara Blaedel and Yrsa Sigurðardóttir. This was a fun one and I think I'm going to bump up The Undertaker's Daughter on my TBR #BayAreaBookFest

🍁🌳📚🍂🍃📚🍊🤓 #FallReads #FallIntoReading #TBR

These are just some of my planned #FallReads.
In the fall I tend to go for dark, gothic, atmospheric reads or of course scary thriller/mystery type reads, or simple anything involving witches & ghosts!😱

Some of these are #ARCS, such as the tagged title which involves a woman who inherits a funeral home of all things, from a father she barely knew....& an unsolved murder too! (2/6/18)😮🙊

Nat_Reads I'm like you!!! Love all these kinds of books in the fall! 7y

A book by Sara Blaedel set in Wisconsin- count me in! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the new main character of Ilka. Can't wait for the next installment. And read while on vacation - even better.

#TBRtemptation post 7! #BEA17 edition! This is the start of a brand-new series from Denmark's "Queen of Crime". Think of "Six Feet Under" & "The Killing". Ills is a photographer in Copenhagen when she learns her estranged father died & left her his funeral home in Racine, Wisconsin. She hops on a plane to learn about him & quick-sale the place, but stumbles on an unsolved murder with danger imminent. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?#Coale photobomb
