Once upon a time, fairies were the stuff of bedtime stories and sweet dreams. Then came the mutations, and the dre-ams became nightmares. Mosquito-size fairies now indulge their taste for human bloodand for most humans, a fairy bite means insanity or death. Luckily, Annabelle Lee isnt most humans. The hard-drinking, smart-mouthed, bicycle-riding redhead is immune to fairy venom, and able to do the dirty work most humans cant. Including helping law enforcement and Cane Cooper, the bayous sexiest detectivecollect evidence when a body is discovered outside the fairy-proof barricades of her Louisiana town. But Annabelle isnt equipped to deal with the murder of a sixyear- old girl or a former lover-turned-FBI snob taking an interest in the case. Suddenly her already bumpy relationship with Cane turns even rockier, and even the most trust-worthy friends become suspects. Annabelles life is imploding: between relationship drama, a heartbreaking murder investigation, Breeze-crazed drug runners, and a few too many rum and Cokes, Annabelle is a woman on the runfrom her past, toward her future, and into the arms of a darkness waiting just for her. . . .

Mehso-so

I wanted to love this book but i just couldn‘t. The author has a flippant attitude towards alcoholism in the beginning of the book. Uses a racist term towards Hispanic people and just ugh!‘ Otherwise this book was excellent and has an amazing twist at the end that I didn‘t see coming.

This is pretty fun urban fantasy. If you like killer fairies and murder mysteries, you'll enjoy this.

Runner5ive That was on my shelf, now it's on my TBR pile. Thanks for the recommendation, it sounds exactly like my sort of book. 7y
annkuch13 @Runner5ive Oh good! I hope you like it! 7y

With only 50 pages left in my current read, it's almost time for the difficult question of what to read next...
#shelfie

Abby-J I see some October Daye books on that shelf! I love her. 😍 7y
annkuch13 @Abby-J That's the next urban fantasy series I'm going to start! Hopefully in the next month or So! 7y
Abby-J @annkuch13 It‘s my absolute favorite urban fantasy. McGuire releases a new book in the series the day after Labor Day every year, and I usually spend the last couple weeks of August rereading in anticipation. 7y

annkuch13 @Abby-J That's great to hear! I'll have to move it forward on my tbr even more! 7y
DebbieGrillo Your TBR list has two books I really enjoyed: Black Chalk and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Both highly recommended and very different from each other. 7y
annkuch13 @DebbieGrillo Thanks for the suggestions!! 7y

A little late for day one of #riotgrams but I haven't gone to bed yet so it still counts. Here's a #shelfie of my favorite urban fantasy shelves. I've read most of these (or at least started the series).
