Daniel Hunter has spent years defending lost causes as a solicitor in London. But his life changes when he is introduced to Sebastian, an eleven-year-old accused of murdering an innocent young boy. As he plunges into the muddy depths of Sebastian's troubled home life, Daniel thinks back to his own childhood in foster care - and to Minnie, the woman whose love saved him, until she too, betrayed him so badly that he cut her out of his life.

Weak Pick as I did enjoy this one but I felt it was only nearly really good - not really sure how or why it missed the mark, but something was lacking. Both timelines were equally intriguing, characters were interesting & well drawn but, gosh I don't know, it just lacked the final punch. The twist was predictable but it wasn't that. The fact that I didn't come away gobsmacked was disappointing as I'd been fully expecting to. So it was me then 🤣

Two stories in one....the unfolding of a murder through the trial of a youth....and the story of a relationship of a young foster boy and the woman who took him in.

This was good!

One plot line follows Daniel the solicitor trying to keep 11 year old Sebastian out of prison, he's charged with murder of an 8 year old.

The other plot line follows Daniel's past as a runaway, a foster child, a violent boy.

I was hooked early. I wanted to know whether Sebastian had done it, whether Daniel can free him or not. Also, how Daniel, the son of a drug addict, became a lawyer and got estranged from his adoptive mother.

Nearly done with my #audiobook, because it took me longer to hang up this new lamp.

I decluttered most of the flat in search of a fitting screw driver to loosen the screws of the previous lamp. Of course none was to be found and I had to go and talk to a neighbour to borrow one. 😱

Now that I'm done, have shared pictures, three people have already told me that the cord is too short. Well, duh, it's the one IKEA boxed with the lamp.

Crazeedi I love the light! Good job! 6y

My form of early morning #rehab: listening to the tagged #audiobook, watching the sun rise over the house opposite, while I'm lying on my acupuncture mat.

batsy Love these pics 🐈 6y
Itchyfeetreader @cathythoughts I got one for Christmas after @julesG posted about them. I have really enjoyed using it esp on a very knotty shoulder ! 6y
julesG @Cathythoughts Here's the website https://shaktimat.eu/ I was pretty sceptical at first, but soon came to love it. And I've gushed about it everywhere. It's great for shoulder and neck pain due to knotted muscles, as @Itchyfeetreader said. But I also rest my legs or stand with my feet on it. 6y
erzascarletbookgasm Thanks for the link. Are you using the Shakti black mat? Or there are few different types? How long have you been using it? (edited) 6y
julesG @erzascarletbookgasm I'm using regular one in orange. But I've been thinking about upgrading to the black one. I've been using it for more than a year now. Sometimes irregularly, sometimes twice every day. 6y
erzascarletbookgasm I‘m very interested! I‘ll have to find out their shipping costs though. Thanks 6y
julesG @erzascarletbookgasm I didn't have to pay shipping costs, but I'm in Germany. 😶 Have a look on amazon. They have the Shakti mat, but also similar ones at a lower price. A friend of mine tried my Shakti mat, but then ordered a mat and pillow somewhere else for half the price of the Shakti original. 6y
erzascarletbookgasm 👌 will do! 6y
Caroline2 I bought my husband one of those mats for Christmas...he has since then accused me of buying him a torture devise!!! 😳😆 6y
julesG @Caroline2 😂😂😂 it is a torture device, but it helps. 6y
Caroline2 @julesG my son (5yrs) is really scared of it and if we talk about getting the picnic mat out or yoga mat or any mat he immediately starts shouting, “Not the prickly one, noooooooo!!!” 😆 ps he has never even touched it! 🙄 6y
julesG @Caroline2 Your husband must have shared his opinion of the torture mat quite often. ? Both my kids like the "cactus/hedgehog mat", they keep their shirts on, though. Less prickly. 6y
Caroline2 Yep!! In type male fashion he has been very vocal about the pain! 🙄 so now the boys are scared of it! Bunch of whooses!!! 😆 6y
julesG @Caroline2 😂😂😂 even my tomcat likes the mat. But I never catch him in the act, I only find his hair on the mat. 6y
Mdargusch Perfect way to start the day. 🐱 6y

#GhostCat eyeing my breakfast before trying to eat the artificial grass.

I've been up for ages. Might head into IKEA later, a friend asked me to accompany her.

While doing research on the book I was looking for the other day, I found the tagged #audiobook. Started strong, a child possibly murdered by another child. Told from the POV of the defendant. Alternating chapters between the present and the narrator's own past as a foster kid.

j.rye I really liked this book. It kept me so captivated! 6y
rretzler 😻Beautiful kitty. I used to have a Birman cat with seal-point markings and your pics reminded me of him 6y

This book has me waking up at 4 am to finish the last 100 pages in peace. While I won‘t say it has kept me on my toes, it has definitely kept me hooked. Two consecutive stories from the same character keep you turning pages. Usually I hate following two story lines at once, but the author really does it right.

A total page turner. Two stories told of the main character, one in present time the other as a child. Excellent character development and a very well thought out story. Loved this!
