The Ethics of What We Eat
The Ethics of What We Eat: Why Our Food Choices Matter | Peter Singer, Jim Mason
2 posts | 7 read | 31 to read
Peter Singer, the groundbreaking ethicist whom The New Yorker calls the most influential philosopher alive teams up again with Jim Mason, his coauthor on the acclaimed Animal Factories, to set their critical sights on the food we buy and eat: where it comes from, how it is produced, and whether it was raised humanely. The Ethics of What We Eat explores the impact our food choices have on humans, animals, and the environment. Recognizing that not all of us will become vegetarians, Singer and Mason offer ways to make healthful, humane food choices. As they point out: You can be ethical without being fanatical.

Pickpick

If you look really close, you'll note an itty bitty cow in the pic for today's #RiotGrams #AnimalCovers. I've lent this out to several friends and threatened "things" if they failed to return it. The book follows several families in different income brackets and shows the role money plays in access to ethical food. My favourite chapter is the dumpster diving one, which changed my perspective and turned me into an occasional one.

Diannelebold I will have to pick this one up. 7y
Lindy My first thought: this looks like something I want to read. Second thought: oh! I have already read and enjoyed this! I remember the dumpster diving folks. 7y
