Fiery Deirdre hated the idea of war in 1914. But a horrific family loss leads her and her uncanny Irish ways into service as a military nurse.Newfoundlanders Jack Oakley and Will Parsons gather with pals at their beloved lighthouse, deciding to embark together on the grand adventure of war. After all, the whole affair surely won't last long...Each faces their own truth in the carnage of France-- and none will be the same. When the guns fall silent, can Deirdre overcome her guilt and hidden demons through a new life with Jack, himself battered and struggling to forge a place for himself at the edge of a wounded Empire? Can shell-shocked Will bear the weight of his memories and his father's expectations? Their way forward is fraught with regret, tragedy, and hard choices. Can they move beyond their shared history of suffering and loss to find love and contentment?

This is a story about WWI and how the war enters your sistem and is very hard to get rid of it.
It follows four youth who fought in the war and all brung home their scars, visible or otherwise.

I mistly liked it. Maybe a but too episidic, but quite intense. The writer is a veteran too (of the Afghanistan war) and this lent authenticity especially to thd long war section

My Kobo tells me l've read 79 books on it in the three years l've owned it.
I'll tell you the truth, it converted me. I never thought l would one day read on an ereader, but it is indeed very handy, and l can read documents without printing them, and l can try books that l would hesitate to buy and put on my shelf (space - you know that reader's doom?). I do appreciste it now.

But nothing is like reading a real paper book 😊😍

Ms_T I didn't read much until the invention of smartphones and ereader apps. Now I've always got my nose stuck in my Kindle/Kobo/iBooks/PlayBooks app 😃 8y
JazzFeathers I'll give that to modern technology: if we want, we really can read anything, anywhere 8y
Tanner I agree! I love print books, but the ereader is so handy, especially for library books! 8y

BellaBookNook I read both on my Kindle and actual books. I still love the tactile and visual experience of books but I love sampling books too and the fact that I could walk around with a whole library in my hand!!🤓 8y
JazzFeathers @Tanner l find it handy for a lot of things, that's how it won me over 😆 8y
JazzFeathers @BellaBookNook That is so true 😁👍 8y
