Brown Sunshine of Sawdust Valley
Brown Sunshine of Sawdust Valley | Marguerite Henry
1 post | 2 read
One of the most beloved of all childrens book writers tells the story of a seemingly worn-out mare, owned by Mollys family, who is carrying a secret: a baby mule! Young Molly thinks the new creature is the most beautiful thing shes ever seen. She calls him Brown Sunshine of Sawdust Valley, and as the years go by, Molly discovers that, just like his mother, her mule is full of wonderful surprises.

Day 25 of a book from my shelves with random thoughts - fellow Littens will understand that my favorite vacation souvenir is a book! I love buying books when I am on a trip, as the book becomes connected with those happy memories every time I read it. This one was purchased on a family trip to Vermont back in 1997, and while it isn't my favorite of Henry's books, it's still a fun little story about a girl & her mule. As with Misty's Twilight, ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) part of the problem with this story is that Henry is covering several years' worth of time in only about 100 pages, which means that character development is almost nonexistent and the plot is a bit thin - a likable story, but not one that I would choose if I was introducing someone to Henry's work. 4y
