Reading challenge prompt: a classic by a Black woman. I didn‘t want to go with an author I‘d read before, and found this in my searching. It is just the kind of book I loved as a kid, so I grabbed it up. Excited to start it now!

Another children's classic I hadn't read, but I think if I had I would have been scared by it. I found all the different covers interesting. #Screamathon #Scarathlon2021 #TeamSlaughter #SpookoweenReadathon #Wickedathon @4thhouseontheleft @Clwojick @TheSpineView @StayCurious
This was required reading when I was in grade school and I wanted to revisit it to see what I thought today. The ending feels slightly rushed and not as eerily dramatic as the rest, but I loved rediscovering the themes and history involved in this book. A well-paced read that doubles as an excellent educational tool for all ages!
Just a note: To fully experience this book I also recommend reading up on the history of author Virginia Hamilton!
It's time for the #Throwbackreadathon! I know my TBR stack is very ambitious (especially since I'm still waiting for Encyclopedia Brown from the library), but I'm going for it! Now, where should I start...

Spooky reading fun!
Browsed the two carts of books for sale at my library this afternoon. I got these plus a Native American memoir for my Mom for a total of $3.75!
