I don‘t know for sure if BROOD, the sequel to BREED, is in fact the middle chapter in a trilogy; but it certainly suffers from the worst aspects of this type of story. Characters shifting around without any real goals, no actual forward movement on the plot, and an ending that leaves a large sub-plot hanging mid-air. Not to mention a soft silliness to the ‘body horror‘ conceit of the first novel (hovering babies with little wings? Really?).
