#Pemberlittens I've been contemplating color schemes for flower beds up against the house. There are plenty of foundation shrubs for greenery but no flowers. And then replacement copy of In The Garden with Jane Austen. My brick and brick at Chawtow Cottage are a close match! It's giving me lots of inspiration. 🏡

#Pemberlittens if your looking for more info about yesterday's mention of Hermitages this is the book you want. Also has pictures of Chawton. It's a favorite of mine. As I'm always striving for English Garden Dreams although my reality is Oklahoma. 😄

I write a Gardening Column on behalf of my Garden Club for our local newspaper. It's old school paper. They don't have a online presence. I cringe when editor shortens because of space or edits and misspells.😱
Fortunately I can put the original on Garden Club Facebook https://www.facebook.com/1714379381960880/posts/2907438832654923/ Page.
This month I'm extremely proud to have started and ended with Jane Austen references. 📰 #pemberlittens

I'm fascinated by English Gardening. Example of a Ha-Ha at Chawton House Museum.
Ha-Ha - "a sunken fence that preserved the view from the house while keeping livestock off the lawn." ???

Happy First Day of Summer!
Much like Jane I am not a fan of Summer Heat. DO love the Summer Flowers like these Lisianthus. 'Lizzie's' (as I call them) take forever to start from seed. Here in Oklahoma I have to start seeds in greenhouse around first of the year. Payoff is big. Gorgeous cut flowers with long vase life. 💜💜💜💜💜

Some would say book hoarding. Litsians recognize research.

I picked up an old copy of Country Gardens, hoping to flip through for a little inspiration. It happened to have a feature on Jane Austen's garden - excerpted from the tagged book! (which I also hope to come across one day)

Cassandra tried her hand at mulberry trees, and Jane wrote to her "I will not say that your mulberry trees are dead, but I am afraid they are not alive." ?

LeahBergen I‘ve always loved that line from her letter. 😂 7y
mabell @LeahBergen Her wit just kills me 😂 Though there are some bits I came across in her letters that crossed from wickedly witty to mean. 😳 7y
LeahBergen I know! It makes me wonder how bad the letters were that her sister, Cassandra, destroyed. I guess she could be pretty scathing about family members. 😆 7y
mabell @LeahBergen I can imagine! And I know these were private letters, but Ouch. 😂 7y
