Murder at the Spa
Murder at the Spa | Stefanie Matteson
3 posts | 1 read | 5 to read
World-renowned actress Charlotte Grahams trip to a luxury spa is cut short when shes forced to track a killer in this charming cozy mystery Charlotte Graham is a legend of the silver screen, a bona fide star straight out of the golden age of Hollywood. She has Oscars on her shelf, money in the bank . . .and a knack for solving murders. Its been a few years since someone put a real bullet in a prop revolver, tricking Charlotte into killing her Broadway costar, but because she found the culprit herself, her friends drop her a line any time they need a sleuth. And Charlotte doesnt mind; compared to the stress of life as a Hollywood legend, catching criminals is a breeze. On a cleanse at a friends health spa, Charlotte is put on a draconian regimen of health food and clean living. So when a fellow visitor overdoses on barbiturates and drowns, Charlotte suspects foul play. Healthy living is all well and good, but nothing gets a girls blood moving like a nice, old-fashioned murder. For fans of Hollywood, Broadway, or old-fashioned glamour, Charlotte Graham is as refreshing as an ice-cold gin martini. This book is a delightful reminder that even the most cunning killer cant keep a good actress down. Murder at the Spa is the 1st book in the Charlotte Graham Mysteries, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

Pickpick

This was a really good classic mystery story with compelling writing. It‘s fun to read any decent genre novel, but discovering an unknown standout is always special.

I think I‘ve finally chosen my winter reads for the #booked2019 prompts!

alisiakae I‘ve picked the same book for #fairytaleretelling! And I‘m reading 3 Tana French books for 3 of the other prompts. 😃 (edited) 6y
IndoorDame @4thhouseontheleft awesome 👏 that‘s one of the ones I don‘t have a copy of yet, but it‘s been on my tbr since it first came out so this challenge is the perfect excuse to get it (tana French is actually new to me also even though I picked that for Ireland) (edited) 6y
alisiakae The Likeness works for #femaledetective 😄 (edited) 6y

IndoorDame @4thhouseontheleft clever! I‘ll have to check that out. I‘m really getting back into detective stories in the last few months. I used to read them in high school and then stopped for some reason, 6y
alisiakae Same! I took a long break from crime fiction. I‘m currently reading the Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbø, and plan on reading through the Tana French Dublin Murder Squad series next. I #blameLitsy for both. ? (edited) 6y
IndoorDame @4thhouseontheleft haha 🤣 I think it‘s fair for us both to #blamelitsy for that, I feel like I collect book recs here every day- more than I could ever actually plausibly read. I love it 🥰 6y
Cinfhen Is Little Paris Bookshop your #HappyPlace??? I love that idea...books & Paris oui oui 💗 6y
IndoorDame @Cinfhen yes 😊(though the Paris part is still just something I imagine making me happy because I haven‘t been yet,) so really I‘m reading it because the bookshop is my happy place (edited) 6y

Charlotte Graham, a renowned stage and movie actress, finds murder and mayhem in her travels in her golden years. This is the first in a “cozy” mystery series written in the early 90s. I loved the whole series! She at times uses her notoriety to get answers, and Matteson‘s writing is so enjoyable to read. #supertrouper #ABBAinAugust
