Unfinished Gift
Unfinished Gift | Dan Walsh
1 post | 1 read | 2 to read
Patrick Collins is seven years old, and on his Christmas list are only three items. He wants the army to find his father. He wants to leave his grandfather's house. And, for reasons even he doesn't understand, he wants the soldier that's tucked away in his grandfather's attic. Set at Christmastime in 1943, The Unfinished Gift tells in an engaging, simple style the story of a family, and reminds us of the surprising things that affect powerful change in our hearts--like a young boy's prayers, a shoebox full of love letters, and even an old wooden soldier, long forgotten. This nostalgic story of forgiveness will engage readers everywhere.

What do people think of this article? I have family who never read, but also family and friends I know would read if only they had the right book. I did, however, love this quote. He knows my struggle 😭

obviateit YES. This is my struggle too! 7y
Eggs I remember those days.... 7y
laurieluna @obviateit @Eggs I'm having reading regret too. It's only in the past 2 years my reading has picked up, but it's now that I have less time for it. I'm now playing catch up on so many books I could have read before having kids, but instead was a World of Warcraft nut who watched too much TV 😂 7y

Eggs Kids grow up pretty fast, then you can actually read a paragraph again😜 7y
JillR I ALWAYS buy books for kids, even ones who *think* they don‘t like reading... I agree with the article re adults though - if they‘re not readers I won‘t force books upon them as gifts... If they show a glimmer of wanting to be a reader though, they get a huge stack! 😆 7y
laurieluna @JillR yeah. My friend casually mentioned wanting to read Rebecca, guess what she's getting for Christmas 😂 and I will always buy my kids books, and those I know read. I suppose it would be like buying a non sporty person a football kit. 7y
laurieluna @Eggs I know. Just watching them day by day it's scary. My youngest is already 4 months and almost at his first Christmas 😢 7y
quietlycuriouskate I mistrust evangelism, whatever the flavour, so wouldn't buy a book for a non-reader who showed no interest. Also, I imagine it'd be like someone getting me one of those comprehensive make-up sets! 7y
laurieluna @River_Voice agreed! Especially on the make up front. I love bath stuff, but I can't remember the last time I put on a full face of make up. Even if we're going out for a meal the most I'll do is put a bit of concealer on and some eye liner. 7y
Eggs @miralunasbooknook Awww-bless your heart ❤️ Take lots of pics and live in the moment 💕💕 7y
