One of my friends lost her mother this past weekend. When she called me, I felt like the world just stopped. It was sudden. A car accident. Sitting at work today I started to thaw, started to feel the pain and I started listening to this book to shove it aside and make it through my day.
pickWow! This is a no holds bared YA. Nina the MC is in a toxic relationship with few friends and distracted & emotionally distant parents. She makes bad decisions. So far so angsty. Yet I loved this novel. It felt incredibly honest and resonated so much with me and my memories of being a teenager; the obsessiveness the self absorption. It‘s not an easy read and adult me wanted to slap Nina a few times (and her Mum all the time)!
pickBrutal narrative about growing up as a girl with a void for parents. Would recommend 10/10! A zest of Catholicism, as well.
pickWhoa, this book. It‘s unflinching and emotional and wonderfully cathartic. It‘s about the good and ugly sides of being female. It‘s about finding your own voice and your own path.
Moving this up my TBR because it's on the #NationalBookAward longlist! I've read six of the ten books, four to go. How many have you read?
I love this title. It is a good reminder that I am made of a lot. With everything going on in my life, I've been able to keep my chin up and push forward.

Arnold writes tough girls and I need that right now. I just finished the last episode of 13 Reasons Why and feel angry and manipulated (Hannah is awful and awful things happen to her but PEOPLE LISTENED TO HER WHEN SHE SAID SHE WANTED TO BE LEFT ALONE...so how do people read her mind about the opposite? She's obviously mentally ill but Clay's attitude at the end is ridiculous and he's in denial about illness vs kindness) #FEELS
