"Lips not on lips, but on each other's wounds
Must suck the envenomed bodies of the loved
And through the tideless blood draw nourishment
To feed the love that feeds upon their deaths..." ??‍♀️??‍♂️

"Until you have experienced it, you have no idea what it is like. To have one's blood sucked in darkness by someone one adores...We met in the dark and separated in the dark. I have only an impression of white teeth, and a voice - never have I heard any woman say the things she says. She is the very lover for whom I have been waiting all these years." ???

It took about 8 tries to get a picture with his face and with him not moving, but here‘s #Balthazar. #nationalpetday #catsoflitsy #littenkitten

zsuzsanna_reads For 5: last year's booker winner, the Milkman. I am so in awe of that book. 6y
CindyRene Your Kitty's name 💗. Is there a certain person or character he's named after? It's very close to Belt'shatzar which was Daniel's Babylonian name. And also Belshatzar who was the son of Nebuchadnezzar 🤓 6y
Lcsmcat @CindyRene He‘s named for one of the traditional three kings. We got him at Christmas time, and he was always looking up, as if to follow a star. And he had a white Star on his side when he was a kitten that has since faded. 6y
CindyRene @Lcsmcat Aww.. how precious!! Love it!! 6y

Pickpick

This brings more clarity to the events written about in Justine. And while Justine was poetic and dreamy, difficult at times to make sense of this is turning the lens and bringing focus.

#roadreading With book number 2 in the Alexandria quartet, you understand a little more. You get another layer on the story of these intertwining characters. I think I liked it more than Justine; although it is still not an easy read, the Carnival scene is so beautifully described, makes it totally worth it. The whole quartet is my #bookclub1 summer read, so I will keep going.

"Landscape-tones: brown to bronze, steep skyline, low cloud, pearl ground with shadowed oyster and violet reflections. The lion-dust of desert: prophets' tombs turned to zinc and copper at sunset on the ancient lake. Its huge sand-faults like watermarks from the air; green and citron giving to gunmetal, to a single plum-dark sail, moist, palpitant: sticky-winged nymph..." #firstlines
