Coroner
Coroner | Thomas Noguchi, Joseph DiMona
2 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
America’s most controversial medical examiner explores the unanswered questions surrounding the deaths of Marilyn Monroe, Robert F. Kennedy, Sharon Tate, Janis Joplin, William Holden, Natalie Wood, John Belushi, and many of his other important cases Now, for the first time, Dr. Noguchi recounts his colorful and stormy career, explains his innovative techniques, and reveals the full story behind his most fascinating investigations. In Coroner, Dr. Noguchi sheds new light on his most controversial cases—controversies that persist even today: —How did Natalie Wood spend the last terrifying moments of her life? —Did Marilyn Monroe commit suicide or were the drugs that killed her injected into her body by someone else? —Did Sirhan Sirhan or another gunman fire the bullet that killed Robert Kennedy? —How could the knives used in the murder of Sharon Tate be identified and traced to the Manson gang if they were never found? —What were the real circumstances behind the drug-related death of Janis Joplin? —Were Patty Hearst’s kidnappers victims of police brutality or of their own revolutionary zeal? —How and why did William Holden die? —Was John Belushi murdered? These are just some of the questions answered in this powerful, gutsy book written by the real-life “Quincy,” with co-author Joseph DiMona.

Pickpick

Written decades ago by "Coroner to the Stars", Dr. Thomas Noguchi, this felt a bit dated. I wasn't as drawn to the bits about his career, although it certainly was interesting. I loved the chapters that focused on celebrity deaths: Natalie Wood, John Belushi, Marilyn Monroe, and on and on. If you are extremely well versed in celebrity deaths you may be bored, because it basically rehashed known information.

Mistakes like this irritate me. Mrs. Kennedy wasn't even present when Marilyn Monroe performed "Happy Birthday Mr. President", not to mention the date was actually May 19. It makes me wonder what else he got wrong.

JenlovesJT47 That's still a pretty interesting book. He was the Coroner To The Stars! 8y
wrenaymuhree Woof. Those are pretty big errors! 8y
Reviewsbylola I'm actually really enjoying it so far, and overall I'm empathetic with him and all bullshit he had to put up with. @JenlovesJT47 8y

JenlovesJT47 @Reviewsbylola yep. I hear ya though, I have what you might call bullshit OCD - I am allergic to continuity and factual errors in biographies and can spot them a mile away! I think he wrote another book that I've been meaning to get. He definitely had an interesting, albeit very morbid career! 8y
Reviewsbylola I thought so too. I am not a Kennedy expert by any means, and I knew right off the bat that he was wrong about Jackie being there. @wrenaymuhree 8y
Reviewsbylola I love books like this, but now I wonder what else he got wrong. I assume at least the autopsy portions are accurate, since he was there for those. 😂 @JenlovesJT47 8y
JenlovesJT47 @Reviewsbylola lol let's hope so! 😂 8y
emilyhaldi Damn girl, you know your facts or what! 8y
shelf-improvement That's always frustrating when it happens in fiction (I hate geography anachronisms in novels!), but there's no excuse in nonfiction. Editors really should catch that shizz. 8y
Reviewsbylola I just read a book about Jackie a month or two ago and I could have sworn it specified that she was not at that party. So I googled to confirm and noticed that the date of the party was not actually JFK's birthday but then days prior. 😂 @emilyhaldi 8y
Reviewsbylola I know, right?! @shelf-improvement 8y
