I've seen a couple of books referencing alternate retellings of The Illiad over the last few months, but not one of the first feminist takes; Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Firebrand. I first read it when I was 12, and it definitely shaped my view of every single mythological character. Told from Kassandra's POV, all male characters (even Apollo) are complicit in the horror, and Troy is only a generation behind Greece on the path to patriarchy.
annamatopoetry Granted, it has a very 2nd wavey When God Was Woman - vibe, and it's oddly slut shamey at times, but overall it's very effective at giving a realistic twist to mythology. 4y
